Letters of certification or clearance

Letter of certification

This letter certifies that an individual or business entity is a licensee in good standing in Oregon. Some state insurance departments require this letter, although licensing information can now be confirmed on the NAIC's Producer Licensing Database.

Visit www.statebasedsystems.com. Under State Services, choose Oregon. Find the link to Licensee Lookup. Enter the license number. The next screen is your Letter of Certification.

Letter of clearance

Some state insurance departments require a letter of clearance, which shows that a resident license has been surrendered or changed to non-resident, before an agent can obtain a resident license in a new state.

Letters of clearance may be requested by the licensed agent only and via e-mail, please include the following information:

  • The request must include the license number
  • State your moving to
  • If you wish to surrender your license or change to a nonresident
  • And new address and phone number if remaining nonresident

No fees

No fees are required for either of these letters.
