Summary: A priority bill as part of the governor’s housing agenda, SB 829 takes several steps to address the affordability and availability of insurance for affordable housing entities. It establishes and funds a premium assistance program to help affordable housing entities, shelters, and Project Turnkey sites afford the cost of insurance. It directs DCBS to conduct a feasibility study for a reinsurance program or other risk mitigation program to address cost and availability for this insurance. It also enables the department to establish a so-called “export list” of hard-to-place coverages.
