​​Oregon is using eGov to register new Data Brokers for the flexibility of taking the application materials and payment through one website. The information gathered in the registration process is used to determine if a Data Broker will be registered in the State of Oregon. Some of the information collected will be available to consumers on a verification website and through dfr.oregon.gov.​

​HB2052 defines a data broker as a business entity that collects and sells or licenses brokered personal data to another person. ​​

​a. No. If the applicant obtains the Data Broker Registration after November 1 of any year, then they will have an active registration through the following calendar year. The fee is $600.00 for registration and annual renewal. Fees are non-refundable. ​​

​Register online at https://ordcbs.mylicense.com/eGov/​. You will need to be active with the Secretary of State for Oregon. You will need your business name, street address and phone number, primary website and email address, a succinct narrative that describes how a consumer may opt out of data collecting, licensing and selling activities, and be prepared to answer questions regarding the business activities and opt out options.​​

​Yes, the Division maintains licensing records that are subject to public records requests as well as a public facing website that informs consumers about the license and business activities as related to Data Brokers.

​At the end of every calendar year on December 31. Renewal fees of $600.00 are due through the renewal process on eGov by that date or the registration is cancelled. Registrants have until March 1 of the following year to reinstate their license by paying the $600 fee plus a $50 late fee. After March 1, registrants will need to start the process over again with a new application. ​​
